By: Matthew Evans, CWOA Intern The Military to Civilian Transition Session is explored, with a primary focus on addressing the efficiency and issues of the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). Key concerns raised by senators and various stakeholders include mental health, accountability, the smooth transition of healthcare plans to the VA, employment opportunities, and participation rates in TAP courses, with discussions highlighting potential improvements and recent changes made by relevant government departments. By: Michael J. Little, Executive Director The time to act is now! As guardians of our nation's maritime interests, we understand better than anyone the importance of a well-supported U.S. Coast Guard. It's a matter of national security, a safeguard of our borders, and a keystone in ensuring the free flow of commerce that fuels our economy.

Greetings Fellow Chief Warrant Officers We are in full swing of fall out here in Northern Virginia and the colors along Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park have been a sight to see but it has also brought thousands of folks from the DC area out to witness this amazing show of colors. This means it takes twice as long to get somewhere with all the traffic. Not quite DC level traffic but traffic none the less. It also means I have commenced my annual rodeo of leaf rustling. If any of you are interested in learning this highly sought after skill hit me up and I will help you make the dream a reality. Okay onto business. Hello, I am currently a student at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where I am pursuing a dual major Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with focus in Foreign Affairs and History. Additionally, I am expanding my skillset by minoring in Criminal Justice. I also hold an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Criminal Justice from Patrick and Henry Community College. Moreover, I have had the privilege of gaining valuable work experience as a research assistant and board member at The Langhorne House, where I actively contributed to various research projects and public outreach. Hello, I'm Oliver Luong, a second-year student at the University of California, San Diego, majoring in political science with a focus on data analytics. In the future, I hope to specialize in technology law, exploring the intersection between corporations and financial technology. This internship presents a valuable opportunity for me to gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process and I hope to learn more about effective advocacy within our legislative system. I am excited to embark on this educational journey! Hello! My name is Jesibell Espejo, I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut pursuing a degree in Political Science with a dual minor in Human Rights and Anthropology of Global Health. My academic journey has been shaped by a strong commitment to advocacy and welfare policy. Through in-depth studies in Political Science, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of governance structures, policies, and their impact on communities. This foundation has equipped me with a unique perspective on the intersection of policy, culture, and welfare on a global scale. More specifically, I’m interested in studying and working with housing inequalities, and food insecurities within the United States. Growing up in New York I was surrounded by all of these problems, and seeing all of this from such a young age has motivated me to pursue a career in advocacy and public policy. As for the CWOA, I’m very excited to further educate myself on the issues at hand when it comes to the welfare and needs of the United States Coast Guard's former and current officers, as well as bring my knowledge and skills to your organization, advocate on your behalf, help bring your issues to the forefront and help your voices be heard. The House of Representatives has elected a new Speaker, potentially improving the prospects of passing funding bills before the November 17 deadline to prevent a government shutdown, with the Coast Guard Authorization Act being one of the key funding components likely to pass smoothly, while the National Defense Authorization Act faces more complications due to numerous amendments and disagreements. |
