With most professions, one’s career ends with retirement, but when it comes to service to one’s country, the legacy of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bruce E. Matlock Sr. continues through the historical significance of three generations of his family serving in the Coast Guard.  And if that is not impressive enough, his youngest son LCPL Christian Matlock is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

CWO4 Matlock Sr. hails from Jackson, MS and enlisted in the Coast Guard on August 15, 1978. He advanced through the ranks to Chief Petty Officer before earning a commission as a Chief Warrant Officer in the Personnel Specialist. He proudly served with distinction for over 30 years and retired in November 2008 as a CWO4. Throughout his 30-year career, he served onboard CGC MARIPOSA, CG Station Wilmette Harbor, IL, Coast Guard Air Stations Corpus Christi, TX, and Traverse City, MI, CGC ACUSHNET in Gulfport, MS, CG Group Hampton Roads, VA, CG Recruiting Office Spokane, WA, CG Activities Baltimore, MD, and finished his career at Coast Guard Integrated Command New Orleans as the CG District Eight Reserve Assignment Officer and Area Housing Officer. CWO4 Matlock is a 1996 graduate of the Chief Petty Officer Academy, Class XL in Petaluma, CA. In March 2000, he graduated from the Warrant Officer Indoctrination course at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Columbia College. CWO4 Matlock has been an active member of the CWOA since 2007 and is a devoted husband and father of five children.
Chief Petty Officer Bruce E. Matlock Jr. followed in his father's footsteps and enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserves in 2003 while he was attending Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and an MBA while he was serving as a Facility Inspector and Pollution Responder at CG MSU Baton Rouge. Throughout his career as a Coast Guard reservist, Chief Matlock has willingly heeded the call to assist with several major Hurricane Responses. Currently, he is serving as the Reserve Incident Management Division Chief at CG Sector New Orleans. In his civilian role, Chief Matlock serves as the IT Deputy Director for the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Chief Matlock is a committed husband and father of two sons.
SN Jayson A. Matlock-Land enlisted in the Coast Guard in November of 2022 and is currently serving onboard the Inland Buoy Tender Frank Drew.  SN Land attended Western Carolina University for three years before joining the Coast Guard.
Mr. Matlock has been a positive influence on the careers choices of his sons and provided the country with a rich history of service.
