Dear Members,
It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of one of our most esteemed Distinguished Members, CWO4 (Ret.) Damian T. Sarchiapone, who left us on September 14, 2024, at the age of 93 after a lengthy illness. CWO Sarchiapone joined the Chief Warrant Officers Association (CWOA) on June 1, 1968, and was recognized as a Distinguished Member in 1983. His dedication to the Coast Guard and our Association is unparalleled, as is his remarkable legacy of leadership, service, and camaraderie. Tom served as president of the New York Chapter for five terms, leaving an indelible mark on the chapter and the Association as a whole. His military career spanned more than 34 years, during which he earned numerous honors, including:
Beyond his military and Association accolades, Tom was known for his deep devotion to veterans and their families, offering comfort and support through countless ceremonies and memorials alongside his beloved wife, Genny, who predeceased him in 2020. CWO4 Sarchiapone’s unwavering commitment to the Coast Guard and the CWOA exemplifies the very best of our values. He was a leader, a mentor, and a friend to many of us, and his contributions will forever remain a part of our legacy. To honor his memory, The Executive Committee Meeting and 2nd Quarterly Membership Meeting are being dedicated in his name. As we reflect on Tom’s life, let us strive to embody the principles he lived by—leadership, commitment, and devotion to service. Rest in peace, Tom. We have the watch now. Respectfully, CWO4 Rob Resendes President Chief Warrant and Warrant Officers Association, USCG

Dear Rob, Thank you for the notification, letting our Association know of his passing. I did not know our Shipmate Damian Sarchiapone and I am delighted and thankful of his contributions to our Association and to the U.S. Coast Guard. We are forever thankful for his service. It is great to remind our Shipmates of others who have gone beyond serving and contributing in many ways to make our organization better for all who follow.

Tom and I were close friends for many years. We served on G.I. together. We played golf together trying to improve our game without much success but had great times. We attended several Annual Meetings together sharing a room in the old Harrington Building. Tom would stop by and visit whenever he and Ginney were in town when I lived in the New Orleans area. Tom was a great person, friend and a person well worth knowing and associating with. He was a rare individual. He could talk the bark off of a tree and the tree wouldn't even know the bark was gone. I regret that we lost touch with each other as the years passed.
