CWO Melissa Polson assumed her current duties as First Lieutenant and Sail Master on board CGC EAGLE WIX-327 in June 2021. Her primary responsibilities aboard ship are to lead and supervise all sailing evolutions, as well as provide for the safety and maintenance of the rigging, deck equipment and small boats. Additionally, she serves as a Deck Watch Officer and Educational Services Officer.
CWO Polson’s previous assignments include CGC WASHINGTON WPB-1331, CG STA Little Creek, a temporary separation into the Reserves and subsequent ADOS orders to the SFLC Small Boat Product Line.
She returned to active duty at CG STA South Padre Island with additional assignments to CGC EAGLE WIX-327, CG STA New London, Executive Petty Officer of CGC HERON WPB-87344 and CGC BLUEFIN WPB-87318 and as a Leadership and Management Instructor with the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center.
As the incumbent CWOA Vice President of Active Duty Affairs, she has been an active participant in representing the voice of our active duty members. In the last two years, she has attended CWO Professional Development Class graduations in New London, CT, provided supporting information to the Executive Committee on current affairs affecting the CWO corps, and engaged Coast Guard senior leadership for their support of the CWOA.
In 2024, CWO Polson will be transferring to the Boat Forces and Cutter Operations Doctrine Section at Training Center Yorktown, VA.
